os plan

This plot of land is attached to a Grade II Listed Victorian villa built in 1866 and owned by our client and is situated in Cressington Park, a private park estate built by wealthy Victorian businessmen at the turn of the century, many of the buildings are listed for their architectural and historic importance, which means that the buildings and surroundings are protected and that developments cannot be made without permission from the parks committee and Conservation Area Consent.

SNOW have designed a new-build dwelling of around 6,000 sq. ft arranged over four floors. The ground floor accommodates the house’s living spaces which are flexible and open-plan giving a sense of light and space with a double height living area overlooking the well established trees to the rear garden which opens to the living area through folding sliding glass doors maximising the useable space at ground floor and enhancing its connectivity to the garden and swimming pool.

site plan

The form of the house is derived from the comfortable, archetypal, traditional pitched roof building, whilst combining evolving technologies in construction and sustainability. The use of brick as a predominant external material softens the impact of the elevation and improves perceived quality. This breaks up the material palette of the immediate neighbours but sits well with the wider context of a broader material palette established in houses the rest of Cressington Park. The design sets out to create a modern piece of architecture in harmony with its site, context and landscape; an elegant, contemporary, and highly practical house that promotes a fresh approach to contemporary family living.
